Dedicated Hosting FAQ

Dedicated Hosting allows you to rent an entire Server.  Most Hosting – for example, our Web Hosting and Reseller Hosting packages – use Shared Servers, where other customers use the same Server as you.  You do not share a Dedicated Server with anyone unless you want to.  Dedicated Servers are also more flexible than Shared Servers, because you have full control over the Server – you can choose the Operating System, and what hardware and software is installed.

There are several benefits to having a Dedicated Server.  You have total freedom over what software and applications are installed.  If you feel your Server isn’t fast enough, you can upgrade it.  You can also Host as many Domains on one Server as your hardware will allow, and your website/s can grow without the restrictions of a Shared Server.

All C4C Media Dedicated Servers use the Linux OS as we feel this is the most secure Hosting platform on which to Host a website – the Windows equivalent has far more vulnerabilities than the Linux OS.

C4C Media’s Dedicated Hosting allows you to Host hundreds of Domains on a single Server – as long as you have the hardware to Host them.  You will also need to pick the correct Plesk™ license for the amount of Domains you need.

The Plesk™ Control Panel is packed with features, allowing administrators to perform the most common Hosting tasks with an easy to use graphical interface.  Plesk™ allows the Hosting of hundreds of Domains on a single Server, and automates virtually all aspects of running Web Hosting for large volumes of Domains.  Whether you have a large amount of websites requiring Hosting, are looking to become a Reseller of Web Hosting, or you need your own Company email server - Plesk™ meets the needs of clients and customers alike.

A C4C Media Dedicated Hosting contract lasts for 12 months.

All C4C Media Servers are designed so that all clients of all abilities can make productive use of their Dedicated Server.  A C4C Media Dedicated Server can be controlled entirely via the intuitive graphical interface of the Plesk™ Control Panel.  For users who want advanced control methods, full access to the Unix Shell via SSH/SCP is, of course, provided as standard.  Any other tasks can be achieved if you have working knowledge of the Linux Operating System – alternatively, the C4C Media team can carry out custom tasks on the your behalf.

You can install any software you want on your Dedicated Server – as long as the software is not illegal or malicious in its use.

Payments for Dedicated Hosting are made monthly, via Direct Debit or a Standing Order.

All the C4C Media Dedicated Servers are updated with the latest Server security patches.  We perform sophisticated monitoring of all servers, 24/7 – so in the unlikely event of a software or hardware issue, we are immediately aware of the problem.  We also set up and manage secure backups, sent to offsite storage using high level encryption, for all our Servers, so there is always a backup to restore in an emergency.  All server hardware and all pre-installed software is fully managed and supported by C4C Media – any software installed by the you will be supported if necessary at our hourly rate.

Every time you buy a product from C4C Media, we will email you an invoice.  We don’t believe in wasting paper so paper copies of Invoices will not be provided. Invoices are, however, available to view and print (if you choose!) at any time in your online account management area.

If you wish to change the name servers of an existing Domain so that you can use C4C Media Hosting, you need to enter the following name servers.  We have listed the IP’s of the name servers as well, as some registrars require this information:

ns.yourdomainname.extension - x
ns2.yourdomainname.extension - x

If you are using our PHP 5 enabled server, you will have to use the following details instead:

ns3.c4cmedia.com - x
ns4.c4cmedia.com - x

Changing the name servers can take up to 24 hours to propagate, so it is best to make these changes during low impact timescales (for instance, the start of the weekend, or the evening).
